Three Champs for Wrestling at Wilkes Invitational

11/15/2025 8:32:00 PM

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – The TCNJ wrestling team came home from the Wilkes Invitational with a host of hardware on Saturday, producing three individual champions among a bevy of place-winners in a standout showing.

Joey DeAngelo (125), Luke Reitter (133), and Jordan Ayyash (174) all claimed trophies for the Lions, and all did so against TCNJ teammates. Aidan Carmody, Andrew Mucciolo, and Konnor Tubin finished runner-up to the title trio, respectively, while Colin Menier (third at 149), J.J. Giordano (third at 157), Nick Acque (fourth at 165), and Luke Theis (sixth at 184) added to the blue and gold's haul of place-winners.

TCNJ finished second in the team standings to Brockport, but the Lions matched Elizabethtown with three champions and had eight wrestlers place in the top-3 of their respective weight classes - three more than the next closest programs in that category in Brockport and Oneonta.

DeAngelo stormed into the 125-pound final with a tech fall and a pair of pins, while Carmody produced a pin and a tech fall of his own to book an all-Lion showdown. Trailing 1-0 going into the third, DeAngelo got the best of a wild final frame that featured two reversals for each wrestler, and his late escape combined with riding time was enough for a 6-5 victory.

Reitter proved why he was the top seed at 133, pinning all three of his opponents on his way to the title bout. Mucciolo, on the other hand, was unseeded but knocked off second-seeded Corey Cope of Elizabethtown by injury default in the quarters and notched a 14-4 major decision over sixth-seeded Jack Borowiek of Oneonta in the semifinals. Reitter was a 13-1 winner in the all-TCNJ final showdown.

At 174, Ayyash tallied two technical falls before edging Brockport's Gavin McLaughlin, the No. 2 seed, in the semifinals. Tubin was the top seed in the bracket and cruised into the final via a pin and two major decisions. The championship bout was a thriller, with Ayyash going in front for good with a takedown late in the second period on the way to a hard-fought 12-10 decision.

Menier made it to the semifinals at 149 before falling to second-seeded Michael Williams of Misericordia. He responded in a big way, rolling past No. 5 seed Ben Grater of Wilkes with a 17-2 technical fall.

Giordano netted a pair of convincing wins before matching up with teammate Josh Lee in the quarterfinals, scoring a 2-1 victory in double-overtime in an evenly matched bout. He nearly upset top-seeded Tyler Rossini of Brockport, but came up just short in a 2-1 grinder.

Acque pulled out a 7-6 decision via riding time in his first-round bout and made the semifinals with an 18-11 defeat of Wilkes' Brayden Shannon.

Theis lost in the first round but worked his way to the fifth-place with three consecutive wins, including a pin and a 4-2 decision against teammate Isaiah Ruiz. He had a 4-2 lead in the third period in the fifth-place bout, but Brockport's Avery Bustamante used a pair of pins to pull out an 8-6 decision and relate Theis to sixth.
