Game Recap: Lacrosse | | Andy Edwards

Women's Lacrosse Bested at The Battlefield

GETTYSBURG, Pa. – The No. 12 TCNJ women's lacrosse team led a low-scoring affair well into the second quarter until 4th-ranked Gettysburg got untracked with a big run before halftime and pulled away for a 14-8 victory in a top-15 showdown at The Battlefield on Wednesday.

Ally Tobler scored four goals and assisted on two others for the Lions (5-2), but the host Bullets managed to shut down the blue and gold's other primary options.

The first half was a slog, with just three total goals coming in the first 25 minutes of action between two normally high-powered juggernauts. TCNJ netted two of them, taking a 2-1 lead on Marissa Lucca's goal with 4 seconds left in the first quarter.

The visitors held that lead for a while, as neither team managed to put one past the other until Nina Marra found the back of the cage to tie the game with 4:26 remaining before half. That started an avalanche for Gettysburg, which took the lead just 19 seconds later and got goals from Marra and Emily Crane just 48 seconds apart to go ahead, 5-2, at intermission.

The Lions ended their scoreless spell just 80 seconds into the second half as Tobler fed Veronica Campbell for a woman-up goal to cut the Bullets' lead to 5-3.

The teams traded goals for the remainder of the period, the Lions unable to get any closer than two and eventually falling behind by a 9-5 count on back-to-back Julie Breedveld markers about a minute apart late in the third.

Tobler tried her best to keep TCNJ close, sandwiching a pair of goals around one by Gettysburg to pull her side within 10-7 with 13:28 remaining. But Maddie Passarello netted consecutive goals and Marra scored two more of her own around a power-play tally by Naomi Kahney to keep the Bullets well in front.
