PITMAN, N.J. – Justin Kurc and
Kara Wilson took home weekly awards from the NJAC on Monday afternoon after standout performances over the weekend.
Kurc was named Defensive Player of the Week for football, while Wilson garnered Offensive Player of the Week honors in field hockey.
Kurc had two interceptions - one he returned for a touchdown and the other to seal the game - as the Lions edged Lycoming, 27-24, in Saturday's season-opener. Kurc's 37-yard pick-six, the second of his career, staked TCNJ to an early 10-0 lead, and his second pick of the game ended the Warriors' hopes of a rally after the Lions had gone ahead with 2:04 to play. The senior also added a pass break-up on the day. Kurc is now a 2-time DPOTW recipient for his career.
Wilson scored a pair of goals in both TCNJ victories last week, the first two multi-goal games of her career. She netted the go-ahead goal late in the third quarter of Wednesday's 4-1 win at DeSales, scoring just 30 seconds after the Bulldogs had pulled even, and added an insurance tally in the fourth quarter. Wilson also opened the scoring in Saturday's 7-0 rout of Juniata, eventually adding another goal early in the second quarter.
