All-WIAC Men's Tennis

MADISON, Wisc. – The TCNJ men's tennis team hauled in a host of all-conference accolades as the All-WIAC Team was revealed on Thursday morning.

Alberto Thomas was named Player of the Year for the East Division, while Faris Shehata collected Newcomer of the Year honors and Scott Dicheck was tabbed Coach of the Year.

Harrison Maitland-Carter and Nathan Chan joined Thomas as All-WIAC selections in both singles and doubles, with Shehata earning singles recognition and Asa Wong joining the doubles honorees.

Thomas joins Maitland-Carter (2025) as active TCNJ players to be named WIAC East Player of the Year. He is a three-time All-WIAC selection in doubles – one of only four such players in program history – in addition to his second career singles nomination.

Thomas has gone 12-6 overall at No. 1 singles for the Lions, earning four WIAC East Singles Player of the Week awards, and was a semifinalist at the ITA Northeast Regional Championship in the fall. He ranks tied for 8th in school history in overall wins (118), 5th in doubles wins (67), and 15th in singles wins (51).

Maitland-Carter is now in rarefied air in TCNJ Men's Tennis history, one of just two players (alongside Matthew Michibata) to be an all-conference performer at least four times in both singles and doubles. The senior, who went 2-0 at No. 1 and 11-5 at No. 2 singles this spring, is a 10-time WIAC weekly honoree.

Maitland-Carter currently ranks 5th in program history in combined wins (135), 2nd in doubles wins (75), and 8th in singles wins (60).

Chan is a first-time all-conference honoree after finishing 11-6 in singles duals (9-6 at No. 3), including the clinching victory in the Lions' 4-2 upset of Wisconsin-Whitewater in the WIAC championship.

Shehata is the fourth TCNJ player to earn top rookie honors after a terrific campaign in which he has gone 16-3 in singles duals, including a 12-2 mark at his usual No. 4 slot. The freshman, currently on an 11-match winning streak, is also 5-1 in doubles since joining the lineup alongside Sidd Arudi at No. 3.

Maitland-Carter and Wong are a sparkling 17-3 at No. 1 doubles this season, earning Wong his third career all-conference doubles nod and making him one of just four players in school history to have that distinction; Maitland-Carter and Thomas are two of the other three. That mark includes dual-match victories over the top doubles pairs from a litany of nationally ranked squads in NYU, Haverford, Ithaca, Washington College, and Stevens.

A doubles specialist, Wong is 52-20 in his career, good for 24th in program history in doubles victories.

Chan and Thomas are 14-3 at No. 2 doubles, including their current 8-match winning streak during which they have defeated pairings from Haverford, Ithaca, Washington College, and Stevens.

Additionally, Arudi was named to the All-Sportsmanship Team.

Dicheck and his all-conference charges helped guide the Lions to their first WIAC title and first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2019. TCNJ is set to face St. John Fisher in the first round on Friday, with a matchup against 17th-ranked Trinity (Texas) on offer on Saturday should the Lions advance.
