Chandler, AZ…The College of New Jersey baseball team posted a 16-3 win over Keystone College on Saturday. Ranked No. 4 in Division III, the Lions are now 2-0 on the young year, while Keystone drops to 4-2.
TCNJ’s junior pitcher Brad Kittle (Millville, NJ/Millville) worked six innings for the Lions and fanned four as he yielded two earned runs off five hits in collecting the win as a starter. He was supported offensively by his team as TCNJ managed to collect 16 runs off 20 hits, including two extra-base hits.
Senior left fielder PJ Anzelone (Vernon, NJ/Vernon Township) had an impressive outing at the plate as he was 4-5 with four RBI’s, while junior first baseman Bill Kropp (Pottstown, PA/Owen J. Roberts) also drove in four runs and was 2-5 at the plate.
TCNJ’s seniors Gerard Haran (Matawan, NJ/Old Bridge) and Andrew Cosgrove (Lebanon, NJ/North
Hunterdon) each added a double for the day.
Keystone’s freshman Aaron Messner (Muncy, PA/Muncy) was 2-2 as a pinch hitter for the Giants, while scoring a run in the loss.
Sophomore Brett Repard (Hughesville, PA/Hughesville) took the loss and is now 1-1 after 4.2 innings of work. He gave up 10 earned runs off 11 hits with four walks and three strikeouts.
TCNJ struck early in the game as they scored a run in the top of the first inning and jumped out to a 4-0 lead heading into the bottom of the third when Keystone scored a run and pulled within two in the bottom of the fourth, before the Lions broke the game open with six runs in the top of the of the fifth inning.
On Sunday, the Lions will take on Springfield College in Chandler, Arizona at 9:00 a.m. MST.
