TCNJ women's lacrosse team earns 23rd straight NCAA bid

INDIANAPOLIS -- The NCAA Division III Women's Lacrosse Committee has selected the teams that will compete in the 2007 NCAA Division III Women's Lacrosse Championship.

The championship provides for a 24-team tournament. Fifteen conferences have been awarded automatic qualification for the championship. Four teams are selected from Pool B, which consists of independent institutions and institutions that are members of conferences that do not meet the requirements for automatic qualification. The final five berths are reserved for Pool C, which are institutions from automatic-qualifying conferences that are not the conference champion and the remaining Pool B teams.

Eight first-round games will be conducted May 9 at campus sites. Eight second-round games will be conducted May 12, and four quarterfinal-round games will be conducted May 13. The second- and quarterfinal-round games will be contested at four regional sites on the campuses of participating institutions. Winners of the four regionals will advance to the semifinals and final, to be played May 19-20 at McCooey Field, Geneva, New York. William Smith College will serve as host for the championship.

New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference – Babson College
New England Small College Athletic Conference – Middlebury College
New England Women's Lacrosse Alliance – Western New England College
North Coast Athletic Conference – College of Wooster
Old Dominion Athletic Conference – Washington and Lee University
Pennsylvania Athletic Conference – Eastern University
State University of New York Athletic Conference – State University College at Cortland
USA South Athletic Conference – Christopher Newport University

TCNJ is the NCAA Division III Women's Lacrosse two-time defending champion and is making the program's 23rd straight appearance with the selection of the tournament field on Sunday night. TCNJ has now participated in each tournament since it began in 1985. The Lions finished the regular season with a record of 11-2 and ended the year on a modest three-game winning streak.

The Lions compete in a regional tournament at Middlebury College on May 12-13 and will face Cortland State (15-3), a 16-4 winner of a first round over Western New England College. Game time for the Lions' contest is at 2:30 p.m. on May 12, while the host Panthers of Middlebury College will face Drew University (17-3), which beat St. John Fisher College 12-11 in the first round. The Middlebury-Drew game is on May 12 at 11:30 a.m.. Saturday's two regional winners meet on May 13 at 1:00 p.m. on the Middlebury campus with the winner advancing to the national semifinals on May 19 on the campus of William Smith College.
