Ewing, NJ…For the second straight year, The College of New Jersey men's soccer team and the Ducks of Stevens Institute of Technology played to an overtime decision. A year ago, the match ended in a scoreless overtime tie and the 2007 meeting would see the same ending as they contest was a scoreless tie.
Ranked No. 5 in Division III, Stevens is now 3-0-2, while TCNJ is now 4-1-1. For TCNJ the matchup was there second straight contest against a Top 10 ranked team after falling to No. 10 ranked York College (PA) on September 8, 3-0.
TCNJ's senior goalie Steve Scutellaro (Brick, NJ/Brick Memorial) made his first start of the year and his career and picked up a shutout with five saves, while Steven's rookie Zach Carr (Carmel, Indiana/Carmel) added two saves in his outing.
TCNJ's sophomore Adam Dorflinger (Seargentsville, NJ/Hunterdon Central) had an opportunity to end the game in regulation when he hit the cross bar with 47 second left in regulation off a feed from the right side from sophomore Kevin Luber (Delran, NJ/Delran).
Midway through the first overtime period, senior Frank Fiorilli (Bridgewater, NJ/Immaculata) earned a red card after pulling a Steven's players shirt on a break away and left the Lions a man down the rest of the way.
TCNJ will travel to Ramapo College on Saturday, September 15 for a 1:00 p.m. NJAC tilt, while the Ducks will travel to FDU-Florham for another 1:00 p.m. non-conference match-up the same day.
