Syvertsen explodes for 13 for the Lions as TCNJ falls on the road

Pomona, NJ…The Ospreys of Richard Stockton College tallied an 83-72 win over The College of New Jersey in NJAC men's basketball action on Saturday. RSC is now 16-6 overall and 9-3 in the league, while TCNJ drops to 6-16 overall and 2-8 in the league.

Richard Stockton (16-6, 9-3 NJAC) shot 11-22 (50%) from three-point range and defeated The College of New Jersey (6-17, 2-9 NJAC) 83-72 in an NJAC men's basketball game today. Jerome Hubbard (Neptune, NJ/Neptune) hit four three-pointers and finished with 20 points and five assists. Santini Lancioni (Runnemede, NJ/Paul VI) tied his career high with 13 points and Kai Massaquoi (Lawnside, NJ/Haddon Hts.) scored 11 points for the Ospreys.

Aaron Syvertsen (Midland Park, NJ/Midland Park) paced The College of New Jersey with a career-high 13 points and Mark Aziz (Hackettstown, NJ/West Morris) added 12 points. Jeff Warner (Jackson/Jackson) and Jeff Molinelli (Pennington, NJ/Hopewell Valley) netted 11 points apiece for the Lions, who suffered their fourth consecutive loss.

Hubbard dunked and then followed with a three-point play during a 14-0 Stockton run that gave the Ospreys a 25-12 lead midway through the first half. Stockton's advantage ballooned to 16 points, 37-21, after a layup by Massaquoi. Late in the half, Syvertsen scored 10 points in a span of 1:38 to pull the Lions within 44-37, but Lancioni drained a last-second three-pointer to give Stockton a 47-37 lead at the break.

In the second half, TCNJ got within six points at 51-45, but Hubbard ended the threat with a three-pointer and Fran Kelly (Wildwood/Wildwood Catholic) followed with a trey of his own as Stockton built a 57-45 cushion with 13:32 remaining. The Ospreys led by double digits for all but one 23-second chunk of the final 13 minutes as they cruised to the 83-72 victory

TCNJ returns to action on February 20 hosting Rowan University in Packer Hall in an 8 p.m. NJAC contest. TCNJ will honor their 2007-2008 seniors Corey Gilmore (South Plainfield, NJ/South Plainfield), Mark Aziz, and Jeff Warner prior to the contest on Senior Night.
