TCNJ turns in complete effort in shutout of Ursinus

Ewing, NJ… Three goals in the first 1:32 of the game ignited The College of New Jersey women's lacrosse team to its fifth straight win as the Lions got past Ursinus College by the score of 15-0 on Thursday at Lions' Stadium.

The fifth-ranked remained Lions are now 5-0 on the season, while Ursinus fell to 2-5.

Freshman Alison Jaeger (Hampton, NJ/North Hunterdon) opening the scoring for the Lions 58 seconds into the game and just 10 seconds later senior Karen Doane (Bridgewater, NJ/Bridgewater-Raritan) scored after gaining the draw control. Doane finished off the fast Lion start with another goal 24 seconds later putting the hosts in front 3-0.

TCNJ finished the opening 30 minutes holding a 10-0 lead with Doane scoring four of those goals.

The Lions tacked on five more goals in the second half, while the team's defense continued to excel as they earned the shutout and have now allowed only one goal in the last two games.

Doane finished with five goals and an assist and now has 151 career goals tying her with Deana Beuerle (1988-90) for 11th on the program's all-time list. She leads the team in goals so far this season with 21 in the team's five games.

Senior Toni-Anne Cavallo (Cedar Grove, NJ/West Essex) also had a big game with four goals and one assist and Jaeger finished with a pair of goals and three helpers. Adding to the balanced offense was senior Diane Haddeland (Mahopac, NY/Mahopac) and Jessica Falcone (Cherry Hill, NJ/Camden Catholic) as each played scored twice.

Senior Caitlin Gregory (Winslow, NJ/Eastern) and freshman Mary Waller (Bel Air, MD/C. Milton Wright) combined on the shutout for the Lions with Gregory making three saves and Waller one.

In goal for the Bears, Allyson Shicora (Media, PA/Strath Haven) made 11 saves.

The Lions close out their busy week on Saturday hosting 15th-ranked University of Mary Washington at 1 p.m., while the Bears return home to face McDaniel College in a noon start.
