#2 Lions cap regular season with 11-8 win at Stevens

Hoboken, NJ…The second-ranked The College of New Jersey women's lacrosse team capped off the regular season with its sixth straight victory as the Lions got past 20th-ranked Stevens Institute of Technology, 11-8 in Hoboken.

The Lions finished the regular season with a 15-1 record and now await the announcement of the 2008 NCAA Division III Tournament field, which will be made on Sunday, May 4. The Ducks also hope to among those included in the NCAA Tournament field as they finished the season with a record of 12-6.

The Lions got their offense going early as senior Karen Doane (Bridgewater, NJ/Bridgewater-Raritan) tallied 34 seconds into the game after junior Rachel Gordon (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill West) controlled the opening draw.

Senior Toni-Anne Cavallo (Cedar Grove, NJ/West Essex) added to the lead and Doane made it 3-0 with her second goal of the game. TCNJ then got goals from freshman Alison Jaeger (Hampton, NJ/North Hunterdon) and sophomore Lisa Seldeen (Wayne, NJ/Wayne Valley) just19 seconds after building the advantage to 5-0 and forcing the Ducks to take a timeout.

Stevens gained some momentum out of the timeout scoring four of the next six goals, but the Lions maintained a 7-4 lead at the break.

The game remained tight in the second half, with TCNJ tying its biggest lead at 10-5 and then holding off a late surge by Stevens making the final 11-8.

Cavallo paced TCNJ with four goals, while Doane and Jaeger each finished with three goals, with Doane adding three assists. With those three goals, Doane moved into seventh place on the program's all-time list with 189, moving ahead of Liz O'Connor (2000-03).

Senior goalie Caitlin Gregory (Winslow, NJ/Eastern) was solid in goal making 10 saves.
