Box Score

Ewing, NJ... The College of New Jersey men's basketball team brought their two-game losing streak to a grinding halt as they defeated visiting Penn State-Brandywine 110-64.

That point total is the most a Lions' team has scored since a 109-105 overtime win over Muhlenberg College on December 17, 2006. The program record is 124 points set in 1990 in a victory over Westbrook College.

Senior Aaron Syvertsen (Midland Park, NJ/Midland Park) led TCNJ with a game-high 22 points. Senior William Jett (Brown Mills, NJ/Pemberton) added 14 points and five steals and sophomore Al Matlock (Trenton, NJ/Solebury) supplied nine points and five assists off the bench.

TCNJ (12-8) came out sluggish in the first five minutes but quickly kicked into gear launching a 24-2 run while forcing 12 Penn State turnovers in the first nine minutes of play. The Lions continued to roll as they finished the half shooting a red-hot 65 percent from the field and led 65-35 at the intermission.

TCNJ dominated the boards throughout the game out-rebounding the visiting Lions 40-28. By game's end, the Lions hit 42 of 68 shots (61 percent) and drained 9-of-18 three-point attempts.

Sophomore Pete Kelly (Hamilton, NJ/Nottingham) contributed eight points and six rebounds and freshman Dan Bucher (New Providence, NJ/New Providence) tallied a career-high eight points on 3-of-4 shooting.

Freshman Learon Pray led Penn State-Brandywine (1-19) with 15 points, six rebounds, and three steals. Junior Dave Segura dropped in 11 points and Kyle Hagerty knocked in 10 points on 4-of-9 shooting.

The Lions continue conference play this Wednesday at 8 p.m. when they visit Rowan University. TCNJ returns home on Saturday, February 5 at 1 p.m. when they host Valley Forge in a non-conference match.

Penn State-Brandywine travels to Scranton University on Wednesday in a game scheduled for 7 p.m.
