Ewing, NJ… The College of New Jersey women's tennis team rounded out the regular season on a winning note as the Lions blanked visiting Wellesley College 9-0 on Saturday.
The 23rd-ranked Lions will now wait for the announcement of the field for the 2010 NCAA Division III Tournament, which will be revealed on May 10. TCNJ finished the season with a mark of 15-4.
TCNJ also extended its home winning streak to 20 straight victories.
The match marked the final home match for a pair of TCNJ seniors who have been major contributors to the team's success during their tenure. Seniors Jackie Shtemberg (Franklin Lakes, NJ/Ramapo) and Stefanie Haar (Morganville, NJ/Marlton) added to their career numbers on Saturday as the duo now have collectively accounted for 297 combined singles and doubles wins for the Lions.
Shtemberg won 6-3, 6-3 at first singles, while Haar garnered a 6-2, 6-1 win in the sixth position. Shtemberg also teamed up with sophomore Felice Trinh (Linden, NJ/Linden) to win 8-3 at first doubles.
The combination of Allison Tierney (Berkeley Heights, NJ/Governor Livingston) and Karisse Bendijo (Egg Harbor Twp., NJ/Egg Harbor Twp.) posted an 8-3 win in second doubles, while the tandem of freshman Lauren Balsamo (Wall Twp., NJ/Wall) and sophomore Emily Petersack (Mercerville, NJ/Notre Dame) pulled out an 8-6 triumph in third doubles.
In addition Shtemberg's and Haar's wins in singles, Trinh, Bendijo, Tierney and Balsamo also won their respective matches helping TCNJ complete the sweep.
