Ewing, NJ… Taking on ranked opponents is nothing new to The College of New Jersey women's tennis team as the Lions hosted Skidmore College on Saturday with both teams settled into the national rankings.
The 23rd-ranked Lions swept the doubles portion of the match against the 24th-ranked Thoroughbreds coming away with a 6-3 victory. The win puts TCNJ at 11-2 on the season, while Skidmore dropped to 7-4.
So far this season, the Lions are 2-2 this season against ranked opponents.
The Lions boasted a pair double winners as senior Jackie Shtemberg (Franklin Lakes, NJ/Ramapo) won at first singles and doubles, while Lauren Balsamo (Wall Twp., NJ/Wall) came away with wins at fourth singles and third doubles.
Senior Stefanie Haar (Morganville, NJ/Marlboro) had the longest and most exciting for TCNJ on the day at sixth singles as she outlasted Skidmore's Brittany Trimble (Whitefish Bay, WI/St. Anne's-Belfield) 7-6 (7-3) and 7-6 (7-5).
The Lions are back on the court on Tuesday, April 6 hosting New York University at 3:30 p.m.
