Ewing, NJ... It didn't take long for the freshmen class for The College of New Jersey women's lacrosse team to make an impact as the group combined for nine goals and 12 points as the hosts rolled to a 21-4 win over Frostburg State University on Saturday.

It only took two minutes for the fourth-ranked Lions (1-0) to kick start the season as freshman Alex Spark (Harvey Cedars, NJ/Southern Regional) netted the initial goal of the year for the Lion with an unassisted tally.

Classmate Lauren Pigott (Jobstown, NJ/Northern Burlington) then netted back-to-back goals before Spark added another extending TCNJ's lead to 4-0.

That class kept the offense rolling as freshman Jen Garavente (Monroe Twp., NJ/Monroe Twp.) scored off a feed from Pigott.

After a pair of goals by FSU's Taylor Cassatt (Eldersburg, MD/Liberty), TCNJ's veterans stepped up as junior Kathleen Notos (Pennsauken, NJ/Camden Catholic), senior Ali Jaeger (Hampton, NJ/North Hunterdon), and Jillian Nealon (Whitehouse Station, NJ/Hunterdon Central) reeled off consecutive goals igniting a 12-0 run. That run gave the Lions a 17-2 lead at the half.

In the second half, TCNJ held a modest 4-2 edge on the scoreboard to secure a season-opening win.

Pigott finished with three goals and a pair of assists, while Spark added three goals and Garavente chipped in with three. Another freshman, Jennamarie Colicchia (Freehold, NJ/Freehold Twp.) added to the scoring with her first collegiate goal and an assist.

Junior Leigh Mitchell (Mt. Laurel, NJ/Lenape) topped all players with six points with two goals and four assists and Notos had four goals and one assist. Jaeger finished with three goals raising her career total to an even 200 making her the fifth player in program history to hit that milestone.

Nealon also chipped in with three goals.

The loss dropped the Bobcats to 1-4.

TCNJ then jumps right into the conference on March 11 heading to Kean University to face the Cougars in a 4 p.m. start.
