Williamstown, MA …The College of New Jersey women's tennis team opened the 2011 NCAA Division II Tournament strong as the Lions blanked the Bears of Bridgewater State University 5-0 on Friday at Williams College.

TCNJ, which pushed its winning streak to five straight, won all three doubles in convincing fashion with 8-2, 8-1 and 8-2.

The Lions won their fifth straight match when Karisse Bendijo (Egg Harbor Twp., NJ/Egg Harbor) defeated Lauren Donnelly at first singles in straight sets to secure the fourth point of the match. Felice Trinh (Linden, NJ/Linden) then won at two singles over the Bears' Jessica Francis in straight sets to seal the match.

In doubles, Bendijo and Allison Tierney (Berkeley Heights, NJ/Governor Livingston) won at first doubles, while the tandem of Lauren Balsamo (Wall Twp., NJ/Wall) and Paige Aiello (Hillsborough, NJ/Hillsborough) posted the win in the second slot. The final win on doubles was earned by Emily Petersack (Mercerville, NJ/Notre Dame) and Trinh.

TCNJ (15-2) will advance to a second round match tomorrow morning at 8 a.m. against the Bowdoin Polar Bears (12-6). That match will also be played at Williams College.

With the loss Bridgewater ends the season with a record of 14-2.
