Fredericksburg, VA ...The College of New Jersey women's tennis team picked a key win over a ranked opponent on Sunday as the Lions doubled up the University of Mary Washington by the score of 6-3.
The 23
rd-ranked Lions are now 12-1 on the season, while the 21
st-ranked Eagles are 9-5.
TCNJ took the lead in doubles play claiming two of the three points on the table. The second pairing of
Felice Trinh (Linden, NJ/Linden) and
Emily Petersack (Mercerville, NJ/Notre Dame) earned an 8-4 win, while the third team of
Paige Aiello (Hillsborough, NJ/Hillsborough) and
Lauren Balsamo (Wall Twp., NJ/Wall) won by the score of 8-3.
In singles, Trinh won 2-6, 6-1, 6-4 in the second spot and
Allison Tierney (Berkeley Heights, NJ/Governor Livingston) won in straight sets at third singles by the scores of 6-2, 6-4. The Lions kept things rolling at fourth singles as Aiello won both sets 6-4, while
Deborah Wu (Westfield, NJ/Westfield) capped things off with a relatively easy 6-0, 6-1 victory at sixth singles.
TCNJ has a break in the schedule as they don't return to the court until Saturday, April 14 when they will play a pair of matches. The Lions will host SUNY New Paltz and Salisbury University.
