Ewing, NJ…The beat continued on for The College of New Jersey women's tennis team as the Lions handled visiting Richard Stockton College 9-0 on Wednesday for 145 straight conference victory.
The Lions is 3-0 on the season with each of those wins coming against New Jersey Athletic Conference opponents. TCNJ has won all 145 dual meets since conference play began in 1982.
The loss was the first of the season for the Ospreys, which started the season with three non-conference wins.
In doubles, the hosts secured all three team points as the first team of
Karisse Bendijo (Egg Harbor Twp., NJ/Egg Harbor Twp.) and
Paige Aiello (Hillsborough, NJ/Hillsborough) and the second pairing of
Deborah Wu (Westfield, NJ/Westfield) and
Jasmine Muniz-Cadorette (Union, NJ/Union) each won by identical 8-4 scores. The Lions completed the sweep as the third duo of
Lauren Balsamo (Wall Twp., NJ/Wall) and
Alex Bologno (Point Pleasant, NJ/Point Pleasant Beach) cruised 8-0.
The first singles match-up had a special twist as Bendijo faced her sister Krystle, a junior for the Ospreys. The Lion senior got the best of her sibling as she won 6-1, 6-1.
TCNJ added wins in the final five positions to cap off the 9-0 win.
The Lions have a busy weekend ahead playing three matches in two days. The Lions are at both William Paterson University and Ramapo College on Saturday, September 15 and then conclude conference play on Sunday at Rutgers-Camden. The Ospreys are also in action this weekend hosting Rutgers-Newark on Saturday.
