TCNJ drops SUNY Geneseo 6-3 in home finale

Seniors Allison Tierney and Karisse Bendijo were each double winners on Saturday.
Ewing, NJ…A pair of conference champions tuned up for the upcoming NCAA Division III Tournament by squaring off against each other as The College of New Jersey women's tennis team hosted SUNY Geneseo on Saturday. The Lions started fast and never looked back sweeping all three points in doubles to finish the Knights off with a 6-3 win.
 
The Lions won the regular season in the New Jersey Athletic Conference last fall and secured an automatic bid to the tournament, while the Knights (15-3) won the SUNYAC by virtue capturing their conference tournament.
 
TCNJ finished the regular season with a record of 15-2 and will now wait for the announcement of the field for the 2013 NCAA Division III Tournament, which will be made on Monday, May 6.
 
The Lions started the match with the senior duo of Karisse Bendijo (Egg Harbor Twp., NJ/Egg Harbor Twp.) and Allison Tierney (Berkeley Heights, NJ/Gov. Livingston) posting an 8-2 win at first doubles in their final match. At second doubles, sophomore Jasmine Muniz-Cadorette (Union, NJ/Union) and freshman Emma Allen (Moorestown, NJ/Moorestown) collected a 9-7 triumph, while sophomore Alex Bologno (Pt. Pleasant, NJ/Pt. Pleasant Beach) and junior Tara Criscuolo (Westfield, NJ/Westfield) won 8-2 in the third slot.
 
Bendijo, Tierney, and Bologno then tacked on wins in singles play to secure the win for the Lions.
