Orlando, FL… Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute earned an extra point in doubles competition that proved to be the difference as the Engineers edged The College of New Jersey women's tennis team 5-4 on Sunday in a match-up of undefeated teams.
The loss knocked the Lions to 7-1 on the season, while RPI moved to 5-0.
The Engineers secured two of the three points in doubles and the teams then each won three matches in singles play.
Earning the win in doubles for TCNJ was the duo of freshmen
Katie Buchbinder (Scotch Plains, NJ/Wardlaw-Hartridge) and senior
Tara Criscuolo (Westfield, NJ/Westfield). They won their match in the second position by the score of 8-2.
Sophomore
Jasmine Muniz-Cadorette (Union, NJ/Union) earned a 6-1, 6-4 triumph at first singles, while Buchbinder collected a win in the second slot by the scores of 6-3, 6-3. The other win in singles for the Lions was in the fourth slot as freshman
Anna Prestera (Barnegat, NJ/Barnegat) outlasted her opponent 3-6, 7-5, and 10-3.
TCNJ's next match in Florida is tomorrow, March 10 when they take on Haverford College at 11:30 a.m.
