Ewing, NJ... The College of New Jersey field hockey team scored four times in the second half to grab its ninth win of the season in a 5-0 victory over Richard Stockton College on Tuesday.
Â
That win put third-ranked TCNJ at the top of the New Jersey Athletic Conference standings with a perfect 2-0 mark in league play. Overall, the Lions are 9-1.
Â
The loss was the first in the NJAC for the Ospreys as they dropped to 2-1 and 5-4 overall.
Â
There are two more undefeated teams in league play, but Montclair State University and Rowan University have each won their only NJAC contest.
Â
The Lions picked up the only score in the opening half to claim a 1-0 lead with 23:19 on the clock. Senior
Lindsey Hatch (Sewell, NJ/Washington Twp.) worked her way toward net and lifted a short pass that was batted in by sophomore
Jaclyn Douglas (Malvern, PA/Great Valley).
Â
TCNJ did have more chances, but defensive saves by Osprey defenders
Cassie Kirk (Middletown, NJ/Middletown South) and
Alexa Massa (Moorestown, NJ/Moorestown) kept the difference at one goal at the break.
Â
That same combination worked again for the Lions in the new half with Douglas getting her second of the contest. This time she took an insert on a penalty corner from Hatch and then lofted a long shot just under the cross bar to extend TCNJ's lead to 2-0.
Â
Hatch then turned goal scorer just over six minutes later knocking in a rebound for her team-leading 15
th of the season.
Â
The final two goals came in the final as Douglas completed her second hat trick of the season and junior
Mikayla Cimilluca (Fairfield, NJ/West Essex) netted her first of the season.
Â
TCNJ goalie
Kelly Schlupp (Holland, PA/Council Rock South) had two saves for her first shutout of the season.
Â
In goal for the Ospreys, senior
Liz Stankiewicz (Freehold Twp., NJ/Freehold Twp.) was busy finishing with 14 saves, while Kirk made four defensive saves.
Â
The Lions held a decisive 40-4 advantage in shots for the game.
Â
TCNJ is right back on the field on Thursday, October 2 hosting Albright College at 7:30 p.m.
