Ewing, NJ... The College of New Jersey women's tennis team opened the spring portion of its schedule by collecting a 6-3 triumph over visiting William Smith College on Saturday.

The Lions kept their record perfect on the season as they moved to 6-0. TCNJ has already locked up a an automatic bid to the 2015 NCAA Division III Championships in May by winning the New Jersey Athletic Conference in the fall.

The Lions got the spring off to a good start taking two of the three available points in doubles. After the Herons won in the first spot, the second tandem of freshmen
Brittany Reedman (Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown) and
Maddy Stoner (Ewing, NJ/Ewing) posted an 8-5 triumph. TCNJ picked up that second point in doubles thanks to an 8-4 victory by the third duo of sophomores
Katie Buchbinder (Scotch Plains, NJ/Wardlaw-Hartridge) and
Anna Prestera (Barnegat, NJ/Barnegat).

William Smith got a point at first singles, but the Lions countered with back-to-back wins at the second and third positions. Reedman notched a 6-1, 7-6 (7-3) win at second singles, while junior
Emma Allen (Moorestown, NJ/Moorestown) coasted 6-0, 6-3.

The Heron garnered another point at fourth singles, but Stoner secured the win for TCNJ with a 6-3, 6-3 decision from the fifth spot.

Prestera tacked on one more win for the Lions with a 6-3, 6-1 victory in the sixth position.

The Lions have another match on Sunday, hosting the Yellowjackets of the University of Rochester at noon.
