Ewing, NJ … The College of New Jersey women's tennis team dropped its first match of the year to John Hopkins University at its opening match of the Blue-Grey Invitational hosted by Mary Washington University.
 
The 29^th-ranked Lions (8-1) gave the 12^th-ranked Blue Jays a run for the money, but suffered a narrow defeat by the score of 5-4.
 
Senior Emma Allen (Moorestown, NJ/Moorestown) had an impressive win at second singles, defeating Megumi Chen in straight sets 6-2, 6-4. Freshman Sneha Rangu (East Windsor, NJ/Mercer County Health Science) posted a victory at third singled, rallying to beat Jody Law 2-6, 6-3, 7-5.
 
TCNJ took two out of three doubles matches from JHU. Rookie Grace Minassian (Closter, NJ/Northern Valley Demarest) and sophomore Maddy Stoner (Ewing, NJ/Ewing) registered a convincing 8-2 win, while junior Anna Prestera (Barnegat, NJ/Barnegat) and freshman Alyssa Baldi (Mahwah, NJ/Mahwah) posted an 8-3 victory.
 
The Lions are back on the courts tomorrow when the face Case Western Reserve University in a dual match slated for 8:00 a.m.
