Fredericksburg, Va. ...  The College of New Jersey women's tennis team posted a 9-0 victory over Bates College on the final day of the Blue-Gray Invitational on Sunday afternoon at Mary Washington University.
 
The Lions improved to 9-2 on the season, receiving contributions from up and down their lineup card. Bates dropped to 3-6 overall.
 
The final score was a bit deceiving as TCNJ battled hard to win all nine matches. The top three singles players for the Lions dropped the first set, but each rallied to sweep the final two for individual wins. Sophomore Brittany Reedman (Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown) came up clutch in her second set, staving off defeat by winning the tiebreaker 7-4. Senior Emma Allen (Moorestown, NJ/Moorestown) also dropped her opener, 7-5 and rebounded to claim the next two sets, 6-2 and 6-3.
 
Freshman Sneha Rangu (East Windsor, NJ/Mercer County Health Science) and junior Anna Prestera (Barnegat, NJ/Barnegat) also showed their endurance by capturing wins in three sets, while rookie Grace Minassian (Closter, NJ/Northern Valley Demarest) won in straight sets, 7-6 (7-3), 6-3.
 
Minassian and sophomore Maddy Stoner (Ewing, NJ/Ewing) fought their way to a 9-7 victory at first doubles. Allen and Jasmine Muniz-Cadorette (Union, NJ/Union) teamed up to register an 8-6 win, while Prestera and freshman Alyssa Baldi (Mahwah, NJ/Mahwah) cruised to an 8-1 triumph.
 
The Lions will have an extended break before their next competition when they visit Swarthmore College at noon on Saturday, April 2.
