#3 Lions outpace Cavaliers

Radnor, Pa ... The College of New Jersey women's lacrosse team picked up its eighth victory of the season with a 10-4 win at Cabrini College on Tuesday night.

The Lions (8-1), who moved up to the number three spot in the IWLCA national poll, registered 5-2 advantages in both periods to snap the Cavaliers five-game winning streak. They fell to 5-3 overall this season.

Senior Cortney Natalicchio (New Egypt, NJ/New Egypt) put forth another productive game on offense, leading TCNJ with four goals and two assists. Sophomore Elizabeth Morrison (Stonington, CT/Stonington) notched a pair of goals, assisted on a score, and also compiled a game-high six ground balls.

Sophomore Emily Kratz (Robbinsville, NJ/Robbinsville) opened the scoring with her 12th goal of the season just under six minutes into the game. Two quick goals by Cabrini gave them a 2-1 lead, but it was short-lived. Less than two minutes after a TCNJ timeout, Kratz scored again to knot the contest, 2-2.

Morrison found the back of the net just over a minute later to give the Lions the lead for good. Natalicchio made it a 4-2 game with 7:07 left in the period, before Morrison converted a free position shot with one second left on the clock.

A third goal by Kratz (14th this season) and two straight by Natalicchio to open the second half stretched the TCNJ lead to 8-2. The Cavaliers managed to score twice in 42 seconds, but junior Mia Blackman (Arlington, Va/Field School) fired in a winner with just over 10 minutes remaining to keep the game in hand. Natalicchio capped the scoring with 1:20 to play to seal the triumph.

Freshman Miranda Chrone (Moorestown, NJ/Moorestown) faced eight shots and registered a save for her eighth win. Blackman also had an assist and freshman Kathleen Jaeger (Whitehouse Station, NJ/Hunterdon Central) scooped up four ground balls.

TCNJ will take a short break from its game schedule and resume its regular season next Tuesday when they visit Stevens Institute of Technology for a match at 7:00 p.m.
