Lions charge past FDU with 12-1 win

… The College of New Jersey lacrosse team stormed the field at Fairleigh Dickinson University-Florham Campus in Madison, NJ on Saturday afternoon and notched a convincing 12-1 victory.

The fifth-ranked Lions (2-0) shut out the Devils (0-3) with seven unanswered goals in the first half. The college powered in five more tallies in the second half, giving up only one to their opponent.

TCNJ got off to a quick start and led 2-0 just 3:03 into the opening period. A quick goal from sophomore attacker Emily Kratz (Robbinsville, NJ/Robbinsville) at 2:36 to set the tone for the contest. Just 27 seconds later, freshman midfielder Erin Harvey (Mount Laurel, NJ/Lenape) netted her first collegiate goal on an assist from graduate student Erin Waller (Washington Twp., NJ/Washington Twp.).

The college continued to fire away as senior attacker Cortney Natalicchio (New Egypt, NJ/New Egypt) led the offense with four goals and an assist, netting a hat trick in the first half alone. Sophomore Amanda Muller (Hillsborough, NJ/ Hillsborough) added an assist to Natalicchio's second netter of the day.

Harvey continued to rock the field in her second-ever collegiate game, recording three goals on just three shots. Sophomore defender Elizabeth Morrison (Stonington, CT/Stonington) also marked a noticeable presence in the game, notching a goal and picking up 11 ground balls. She also forced a career-high six turnovers in the victory.

Freshman midfielder Abby Flagler (Califon, NJ/Voorhees) scored her first collegiate goal on a Natalicchio assist with just over seven minutes to go in the first half to seal the Lions, 7-0 at the break. Waller and senior midfielder Megan Devlin (Marmora, NJ/Ocean City) tallied a goal apiece to ensure a Lion triumph.

TCNJ put forth another exceptional defensive performance. Freshman goaltender Miranda Chrone (Moorestown, NJ/Moorestown) allowed just one goal and also registered a save.

The Lions are back in action on Tuesday, March 8 at Ramapo College in Mahwah, NJ at 4 p.m.
