Medford, Mass ... The College of New Jersey women's tennis was impressive in its opening match against Baruch College, posting a 5-0 victory over Baruch College in the first round of the NCAA Division III Tournament at Voute Courts in Medford, Massachusetts.

The Lions (15-3) advanced to the second round and will square off against Johns Hopkins University (17-5) tomorrow (Saturday) at 12:30 p.m. at Voute Courts in Medford, Massachusetts. In the event of inclement weather, the match will be relocated to the Bass River Tennis Club in Beverly, Massachusetts. The Bearcats (11-6) were eliminated from the post-season tourney.

TCNJ swept the doubles matches to set the tone for the afternoon. They did not surrender a single game throughout the contest, going 48-0 overall. Sophomore Alyssa Baldi (Mahwah, NJ/Mahwah) clinched the match for the #32 Lions at the number five singles slot, sweeping junior Diane Nguyen, 6-0, 6-0.

Baldi and senior captain Anna Prestera (Barnegat, NJ/Barnegat) registered the first win, defeating freshmen Nicki Dehghani and Katherine Zukhovich, 8-0. Juniors Maddy Stoner (Ewing, NJ/Ewing) and Danna Tsay (East Brunswick, NJ/East Brunswick) posted an 8-0 triumph at first singles, while Sneha Rangu (Plainsboro, NJ/Mercer County Health Science Academy) and Audrey Chen (West Windsor, NJ/West Windsor) then closed out doubles action, besting senior Brooke Severance and freshman Elizabeth Mak, 8-0, during the No. 3 flight.

Senior Katie Buchbinder (Scotch Plains, NJ/Wardlaw-Hartridge) led off single with a 6-0, 6-0 sweep against Severance at the third slot, and then Baldi clinched the match in straight sets.
