Ewing, NJ … The College of New Jersey football team will open its New Jersey Athletic Conference schedule on Saturday when they visit Frostburg State University at 1 p.m.
Â
The Lions (0-1) will encounter a hot program as the Bobcats have won 10 straight games dating back to last fall. Frostburg (1-0) moved up to 11-spot in the D3football.com national poll, following its dominant, 33-7 victory over 18
th-ranked Stevenson College in the season opener. The Bobcats rattled off the final 26 points in that contest, shutting out the Stevenson offense in the final three quarters.
Â
Offense was a bright spot in the season opener for TCNJ. They moved the ball effectively and with balance. The Lions registered 23 first downs in the game, nine on the ground and 14 through the air. Five different receivers compiled three or more catches and
Khani Glover (73 yards) and
Connor Owen (65) were a steady one-two punch in the ground game. Senior
Trevor Osler engineered a efficient passing game, completing 15-of-25 passes for 175 yards and a touchdown. When he was forced to the sideline late in the game, freshman
Andrew Donoghue got his feet wet on the collegiate gridiron. Donoghue passed his first college exam, taking care of the football and completing 10-of-16 passes for 98 yards.
Â
The defense matched up against a talented wide receiving corps in FDU-Florham and endured a rocky start to the season. This weekend, the running game appears to be the strength of their opponent. Frostburg running backs racked up 199 yards in its opener, led by
Jamaal Morant with 71 yards and
Grayson Boyce, who punched it into the end zone three times.
Joe Beckford and
Russell Neverdon were the primary targets for quarterback
Connor Cox. They each caught five passes as Cox completed 11 for 145 yards.
Â
The Bobcats were able to get pressure on Stevenson quarterback Dan Williams. They dropped him five times for a loss of 49 yards. Frostburg also forced a pair of fumbles, both of which were recovered by senior defensive lineman
Jordan Procter.
Â
The defensive line and linebackers for TCNJ will need to showcase their grit and experience in slowing the Frostburg running game. If the Lions' offense can move the chains, sustain drives, and put up points like they did in the opener, records and rankings can be placed to the side on Saturday afternoon.

2016: FROSTBURG 34Â TCNJ 7
Â
Cox threw three touchdown passes in Lions Stadium last October, two of which landed in the hands of Nerverdon. The Bobcats raced out to a 24-0 halftime lead and compiled 259 rushing yards in the game.
Â
SERIES HISTORY
Â
Frostburg leads the overall series with a 5-1-1 record. The lone decision in the Lions favor was in 1969, when Bob Salois led TCNJ to a 21-14 victory. Since joining the NJAC as an associate member, the Bobcats have come out on top in both match-ups.
Â
NEXT WEEK
Â
TCNJ returns to Lions Stadium next week, taking on Wesley College at noon. The Wolverines, ranked 11
th in the preseason poll, dropped a 24-19 decision to Delaware Valley College last week. They have their bye week this week. Frostburg will travel to Christopher Newport University next weekend for a 7 p.m. Saturday night contest.
