Lions Defeat Pioneers

The College of New Jersey women's swimming and diving team defeated William Paterson University on Saturday by a final score of 139-97.  The Lions pushed their record to 4-5 this year including 3-2 in conference meets, while the Pioneers fell to 11-5 and 1-4 in the NJAC.

The Lions started the day off well with the 200 yard medley relay squad, as Kayla Krisak (Lawrenceville, NJ/Lawrenceville), Melanie Fosko (North Brunswick, NJ/North Brunswick), Jamie Bowne (Marlton, NJ/Cherokee), and Elise Fraser (Mountain Lakes, NJ/Mountain Lakes) timed in at 1:58.01 to take first place. 

In the 1,000 free Gabi Denicola (Oradell, NJ/River Dell Regional) took first as she finished with a solid time of 11:17.07, and Darby VanDeVeen (East Brunswick, NJ/East Brunswick) was right behind her with a mark of 11:44.24. Annie Menninger (Plainsboro, NJ/West Windsor Plainsboro South) continued the strong efforts for the Lions, winning the 200 free with a time of 2:02.22  Swimming the 100 breast was Samantha Askin (Warren, NJ/Watchung Hills), who crossed the finish line at 1:15.24 to claim first place.

Bowne doubled up on her solid outing with a first place, 2:27.83 time in the 200 butterfly. Hailey Thayer (Hamilton, NJ/Steinert) took three events, as she won the 50 free with a mark of 26.17, the 500 free with a time of 5:39.55, and the 200 IM as she crossed the finish line at 2:27.37. Kazia Moore (Hazlet, NJ/Raritan) excelled in the 100 free, winning with a mark of 56.79. Jillian Galindo (Millstown Township, NJ/Allentown) took the 200 breast as she crossed the finish line at 2:43.50, and VandeVeen won the 100 butterfly as she swam to a mark of 1:06.31..

Highlighting the diving events was Hannah Raymond (Burlington, NJ/Burlington Twp.) who took the one meter with a score of 272.93. 

The Lions will look to build off this strong performance, as they resume action at the Metropolitan Championships held at Rutgers University the weekend of February 16th-18th.
