Profs Slip Past Lions

Glassboro, NJ... The #12 ranked  College of New Jersey baseball team was defeated by #2/7 ranked Rowan University on Friday in a New Jersey Athletic Conference game 1-0. The Lions fall to 20-6 and 8-3 in the conference on the season, while the Profs improve to 23-5 and 7-4 in the NJAC.

Michael Fischer (Robbinsville, NJ/Robbinsville) put forth a terrific start despite being the losing pitcher. He threw a complete game with only one run allowed, and struck out seven Profs while only walking two. He started the game out strong, as he struck out the side in the second inning. In the third, the Profs put a man on first with one out, however Fischer quickly erased the runner as he picked him off, then ended the inning by getting a ground out.

The Profs pushed across the games only run in the fourth inning with an RBI sacrifice bunt. In the fifth inning they had chance to put more on the board, yet Fischer induced a 4-6-3 double play ball started by his brother Ryan Fischer (Robbinsville, NJ/Robbinsville) and turned by Zachary Shindler (Wantagh, NY/Wantagh) to get out of the inning. The Profs again had a potential scoring inning squandered by a double play ball in the seventh inning.

Thomas Persichetti (Hamilton, NJ/Notre Dame) led off the top of the ninth inning with a base hit through the left side. Shindler reached base on an error, yet the Lions were unable to get the tying run across the plate.

The Lions will have a quick turnaround, as they travel to New Jersey City University for a conference doubleheader tomorrow beginning at 11:30 am, and will get another shot at the Profs at home on Sunday, April 22nd.
