Ewing, NJ… The 9th ranked College of New Jersey baseball team picked up another win on Tuesday afternoon against Arcadia University by a final score of 1--6. The Lions improve to 24-6 on the campaign while the Knights drop to 23-11.
The Lions jumped out to an early lead, as they had a massive nine run first inning.
Patrick Anderson (Long Valley, NJ/West Morris Central) begun the scoring as he lined a single up the middle to center field to pick up a pair of RBIs.
Jacob Simon (Hightstown, NJ/Hightstown) pushed another over with a bases loaded fielder's choice, then
David Cardona III (Elizabeth, NJ/Elizabeth) ripped a double to right field to make it a 5-0 ballgame.
Ryan Fischer (Robbinsville, NJ/Robbinsville) continued the carousel with an RBI single up the middle, then
Danny Borup (Plainsboro, NJ/West Windsor Plainsboro South) pushed over another with a base hit.
Zachary Shindler (Wantagh, NY/Wantagh) drove in a run as he beat out a potential bases loaded double play. That RBI was the 100th of his career. The final run of the inning came when Shindler stole second, and Borup bolted home from third and scored uncontested to cap off the big inning.
The Knights climbed back in it with five runs in the third inning, however would not pull any closer than that. In the fifth inning,
Thomas Persichetti (Hamilton, NJ/Notre Dame) drove in a run with an RBI single, then Persichetti provided another RBI with a sac fly in the seventh inning to push the Lions' lead to 11-6.
Zac deRocco (Red Bank, NJ/Middletown South) gave the Lions a strong outing out of the bullpen. He went 1.2 innings and allowed no runs on only one hit, and escaped a bases loaded jam in the seventh inning with a strikeout.
Matt Curry (Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) entered the game in the ninth with the bases loaded, and got a double play ball on his first pitch to end the game and collect his seventh save of the season.
Andrew Rowan (Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) was the winning pitcher, as he went six innings and allowed no earned runs while striking out two.
The Lions will resume play on Thursday, April 26th when they will travel to conference opponent William Paterson University for a 3:30pm first pitch.
