Union, NJ... The 9th ranked College of New Jersey baseball team split the double header against Kean University on Saturday, as Kean took game one 6-5 and TCNJ drew even in game two by a score of 3-2. The Lions record is now 26-7 including 13-4 on the year, while the Cougars are 19-20 and 9-8 in the conference.Â
In the first game, TCNJ pushed over a run in each of the first three innings. Leadoff man
Danny Borup (Plainsboro, NJ/West Windsor Plainsboro South) scored the first on a wild pitch, then
David Cardona III C(Elizabeth, NJ/Elizabeth) drove in the next run with a base hit.
Austin Lindsay (New Egypt, NJ/New Egypt) made it a 3-0 ballgame with an RBI fielder's choice.Â
The Lions tacked on another in the 5th inning, when
Zachary Shindler (Wantagh, NY/Wantagh) drove in a run with a two bagger. The Cougars then pulled within 4-3, yet Cardona III extended the Lion lead with an RBI sac fly in the 8th inning however the Cougars rallied for three runs in the bottom of the ninth to grab the win.
In game two, the Cougars took an early 1-0 lead, yet TCNJÂ regained control of it as
Jacob Simon (Hightstown, NJ/Hightstown) knocked in a run with a sac fly, then
Thomas Persichetti (Hamilton, NJ/Notre Dame) made it 2-1 with an RBI groundout.Â

Brandon Zachary (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill West) threw another gem on the mound, as he went 9 innings with one earned run and four strike outs. The game was tied up 2-2 after nine innings, and
Nickolas Kleftogiannis (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill West) threw two hitless innings to shut down the Cougars in the 10th and 11th. In the 12th inning the Lions gained the lead, as
Ryan Fischer (Robbinsville, NJ/Robbinsville) stole third, and was able to score on an error.
The Lions return to the diamond tomorrow, where they will wrap up the regular season with an NJAC game against William Paterson. Tomorrow is also the Lions' senior day.
