EWING, N.J. – TCNJ junior guard
Randall Walko earned Google Cloud Academic All-District honors, selected by CoSIDA. The program accepts nominations of players who carry at least a 3.3 cumulative GPA while also serving as a significant contributor on their teams. Walko, a management major with a 3.42 GPA, was selected to the First Team of NCAA Division III, District 2.
Â
Walko had a big year on the court for the Lions, and he's had a big week in the awards category. Earlier this week, he was named First Team All-NJAC. He improved upon a Second Team All-NJAC selection from his sophomore season, a year that he was also an NJAC All-Academic Honorable Mention.
Â
This season, Walko scored 20-plus points in 13 games, and he topped 30 points in four of those games. In last Saturday's NJAC first round defeat at Montclair State, Walko scored 31 points and grabbed seven rebounds. It was his second 30-plus scoring game against Montclair State. He scored a career-high 34 against MSU in December.
Â
Walko leads the NJAC in scoring, averaging 20.2 points per game. He's also in the top handful of players in the conference in three-point shooting, free throw shooting and field goals.
Â
With his selection to the Academic All-District Team, Walko is now eligible for voting as a Google Cloud Academic All-America. The results of that ballot will be announced in mid-March.
Â
CoSIDA began the distinguished Google Cloud Academic All-America program in 1952, and since then, has honored thousands of deserving student-athletes from numerous sports across all divisions with these elite Academic All-America scholar-athlete honors.
Â
Currently, CoSIDA sponsors Academic All-America programs for men's soccer, women's soccer, football, volleyball, men's basketball, women's basketball, baseball, softball and men's and women's track and field/cross country. Many other sports are eligible through the At-Large program.
