GENEVA, N.Y. –
The College of New Jersey women's tennis team competed at the ITA Northeast Regional Tournament Saturday. The tournament was hosted by William Smith College.

The Lions were strong on day one posting a 5-3 singles record and advancing Charlotte Roarty and Liya Davidov to the round of 16. In doubles play, TCNJ went 5-1. Davidov and Katrine Luddy as well as Jenny Landells and Roarty advanced to the quarterfinals.

Day two competition begins tomorrow at 8:30 a.m.

Liya Davidov

Davidov entered the tournament as the fifth seed and immediately proved why she is one of the best in the region. The sophomore defeated Rebecca Andrews of Ithaca College 6-1, 6-1 in the opening round. In round two, Davidov matched up against Tatum Blalock of Vassar. The two appeared to be evenly matched. Davidov took the opening set 7-6 before Blalock answered with a 7-6 win of her own in the second. In the third set superbreaker, Davidov was dominant, winning 10-3 to advance to the round of 16. In the third round, Davidov will face Coco Kulle of NYU. Davidov is 2-0 vs. Kulle in her career. Last fall, Davidov earned a 6-4, 6-3 straight set victory. In the spring, the two met up as part of the tea's dual match. Davidov sandwiched a pair of tiebreak wins around a Kulle set victory.

Charlotte Roarty

Roarty was ranked in the 9-16 grouping entering the tournament. In the first round, the freshman won in straight sets against Maggie Bonomo of the host team, 6-4, 6-3. In the second round, Raorty faced the always tough Audrey Soohoo of Skidmore. Roarty jumped ahead with a 6-2 first set. Soohoo answered with a 6-4 win of her own in set two. In the superbreaker, Roarty came out on top 10-7 to advance to the round of 16. Roarty now draws third seeded Ana Maria Buraya of NYU. Buraya has already defeated Davidov during this fall season in a three set match.

Alexa Vasile

Vasile drew a seeded opponent in Karina Jensrud of NYU in the opening round. Vasile struggled against the fellow freshman, who now has taken two matches from her this fall. Vasile fell Saturday 1-6, 0-6.

Julia Yoon

Yoon faced an uphill battle in the opening round against seeded Anastasiia Balyk of NYU in the opening round. Balyk took out her second Lion of the fall season with a 6-1, 6-1 win. Balyk previously defeated Katrine Luddy in a three set match.

Katrine Luddy

Luddy was the third Lion to face an opponent from NYU in the first round. Unlike the previous two, Luddy was strong in the first round, winning 6-0, 6-4 over Rupa Ganesh. In the second round, Luddy faced seeded opponent Dea Koiava. Koiava ended Luddy's run at the regional for a second straight season, winning 6-3, 6-1.

Liya Davidov and Katrine Luddy

The sophomore duo of Davidov and Luddy earned a victory by default in the opening round over Tatum Blalock and Melina Stavropoulos of Vassar. In round two, the duo took advantage of their fresh legs to defeat Claire Casalnova and Shayna Ginster 8-2. The seeded duo will face off against the top seed of Anastasiia Balyk and Anna Maria Buraya of NYU. The Lions duo has faced these opponents already this fall. Davidov and Luddy combined for an 8-4 win during the tournament.

Jenny Landells and Charlotte Roarty

Landells and Roarty appeared to have the toughest draw of any Lions in the opening round when they drew third-seeded Rani Jones and Alex Mednikova of RPI. Landells and Roarty showed why matches are not won on paper, dominating the highly ranked duo 8-3. The pair then faced Sravya Gudipudi and Rola Abouzeina of Rochester. Landells and Roarty continued their freshman campaigns with an 8-5 victory. In the third round, the duo will face another seeded group in Miriam Gandham and Sarra Yekta of Vassar. This is Yekta's second trip to the quarterfinals. She advanced to the quarters in 2017 with a separate partner before falling to a pair from NYU.

Anusha Rangu and Alexa Vasile

Rangu and Vasile played the closest match of the first round. The pair topped Kirsten Auble and Kristen Zablonski of RIT 8-7. In the second round, they faced fourth seeded Risa Fukushige and Chanhtel Thongphok of Skidmore. Fukushige, a 2017 ITA Doubles All-American and 2018 ITA Singles All-American, used her experience to help defeat the freshman duo from TCNJ 8-3.
