Monday Alumni Update: Trevor Osler

9/14/2020 11:12:00 AM

Every Monday, TCNJ Athletics will check in with an alum from one of its programs. Today, it's 2018 graduate Trevor Osler. Osler is an alum of TCNJ football who was the starting quarterback in his junior and senior seasons. He ranks fourth all-time in program history in passing yards with 4,081. Osler, a Marlton, N.J. native, graduated with a degree in mechanical engineering.

1. In a paragraph or two, talk about what you've done since you've left TCNJ:
  • Well, I've worked as a systems engineer for a robotics company since shortly after graduation, which has occupied a whole lot of my time. I've had the opportunity to travel a lot of the country, and even internationally for work, which has been both challenging and valuable.
  • I've faithfully cheered on the Philadelphia Eagles, gotten in and out of shape about five times, become even worse at golf, and spent as many days down the shore as possible. I moved to Manayunk, Pa. with friends about a year ago where you can find us working hard during the weeks and having fun on the weekends.
2. What has been your favorite professional experience?
  • Developing relationships with different folks from various walks of life across the country.
 3. Do you stay in contact with any of your old teammates or coaches?
  • Plenty of them. My former teammates encompass some of my closest friends. The great thing about my teammates from college is even if I haven't seen them in a while, I still feel like they know me inside and out.
  • Hardly a few weeks go by where I don't talk to Coach Cicardo-he gives great advice! Coach Goff, Coach Jendryaszek and Coach Hager keep in touch too.
4. What is one thing you miss most about playing sports at TCNJ?
  • The camaraderie, inside jokes, locker room shenanigans, and road trips home after a win. Film sessions on a Monday afternoon after a good game. The last day of spring ball. The first day of class after a grueling camp. And oddly enough, I miss waking up inexplicably sore on a crisp fall Sunday morning and talking about the game with my housemates over a moderately priced breakfast sandwich.
 5. What do you miss most about being a student at TCNJ, either academically or socially?
  • A rewarding all-nighter. There's no feeling like going to bed after a 36-hour marathon of practices and school work. I miss believing that I didn't actually need to sleep to survive.
6. What is your favorite memory as a TCNJ athlete either in competition, in practice, traveling or socially?
  • A tie between the quadruple overtime victory at Southern Virginia University in 2016 and beating Rowan my senior year in 2017.
7. Is there anything your coaches said during your playing career that still sticks with you now?
  • Plenty. I will always be able to hear Coach Cicardo yelling "NOW!" to get me to throw the ball quicker (I mean seriously, he would yell "NOW" before I even got the snap). Coach Hager yelling "Keep the ball in-bounds Osler... I mean Jeez-O-Pete" over and over again.
8. What would you say to a student-athlete who is considering attending TCNJ?
  • You'll be hard-pressed to find a better place for a true student-athlete experience. You won't be able to slack on the student aspect, or the athlete aspect. Take both roles seriously, give them your all, and you will be greatly rewarded. I remember trying to make the difficult decision of where to go to college, and I still feel lucky that I made such a great choice.
 9. Do you have any advice for current TCNJ student-athletes?
  • This isn't exactly advice, but I would pay to go back in time and get a 5 a.m. workout or practice in with the team. Enjoy the team sports lifestyle while you can, because it's hard to replicate that environment.
 10. Anything else, feel free to add now:
  • I'm looking forward to getting back to campus whenever possible, hopefully soon!
