KINGS POINT, N.Y. – Zoe Chan and
Kori Jelinek each won multiple events to headline a terrific effort by the TCNJ women's swimming team at the United States Merchant Marine Academy's Memorial Invitational on Saturday.
Chan captured the 200 IM, the 100 breast, and the 200 free, while Jelinek was victorious in the 100 and 200 fly for the Lions, who also had two winning relays on the day.
Gabi Valladares continued her sensational season, winning both diving events.
TCNJ started with a bang as
Sofia Harty,
Haley Crispell,
Jamie Bowne, and
Shannon Hesse won the 200 medley relay in 1:55.18.
Two events later, Chan claimed her first victory of the day with a 2:13.83 in the 200 IM, where Bowne was fourth (2:19.69) and
Autumn-Brook Tucker fifth (2:23.47).
Chan won the 100 breast in a stirring dual with Crispell, ultimately edging her teammate by .11 seconds with a clocking of 1:11.04.
Jelinek followed with her victory in the 200 fly (2:21.12).
Valladares won the 1-meter dive with a score of 236.65, just .45 points ahead of Adelphi's second-place finisher.
Hesse then snagged a win in the 50 free with a time of 24.62, her second-fastest of the season.
Rachel Hannah was third in the event at 25.72, then came right back to place third in the 200 back at 2:21.98, just ahead of Tucker (2:22.36) in fourth and
Julia Spanfelner (2:24.67) in sixth.
Bowne placed second in the 400 IM (4:57.58) ahead of Chan's third individual title of the day, a season-best 2:01.23 in the 200 free.
Jelinek backed up her 200 fly victory with one in the 100 fly, where she registered a season-best 1:01.79.
Valladares completed her own double with a 266.50 in the 3-meter dive.
The Lions capped the day just like they started it, book-ending with a victory in the 400 free relay as
Colleen Scanlon, Hannah, Hesse, and Chan completed the race in 3:43.95.
Scanlon also placed fourth in the 100 free (57.57), where Cortright was fifth (57.73), and fifth in the 100 back (1:05.37). Hesse (1:05.73), Harty (1:06.28), and
Brianna Hatzold (1:06.56) were sixth, seventh, and ninth in the 100 back.
Lauren Wolstenholme placed fourth in the 500 free with a 5:45.31, and
Allison Lowry was sixth at 5:54.09.
