PRINCETON, N.J. – Another remarkable relay headlined the TCNJ women's track and field team's trip to Princeton for the Joe Handelman Invitational on Sunday.
Megan Gasnick,
Alli Uhl,
Eliza Bruncaj, and
Maria Grill had the highlight of the day, running to a blazing 4:02.57 in the 4x400-meter relay, which ranks fifth in all of Division III. Gasnick led off with a split of 58.73 to put the Lions on the fast track to a sensational race.
Gasnick finished fourth with a collegiate-best 40.94 in the 300-meter dash, where
Maria Grill also produced a personal best (41.31). Gasnick's time is second in the country and the second-fastest in program history.
Grill just missed qualifying for the finals in the 60-meter dash, coming in ninth with a time of 8.10, just .04 seconds off her PR. Gasnick shaved nearly two-tenths of a second off her previous collegiate best with an 8.14, which ranks third in the NJAC, and
Valandra Riggins was close behind in 8.17 seconds in her 60-meter debut.
Bruncaj posted a 15-9.75 in the long jump, good for second in the NJAC, and
Victoria Purritano outperformed her previous PR by more than six inches with a 15-6.25.
Bruncaj and Purritano also joined teammate Kaela Edwards in qualifying for the 60-meter hurdles finals. Edwards finished sixth with a 9.73, with Purritano close on her heels in 9.79. Bruncaj had the best time of the day for the Lions, posting a regional qualifying 9.49 in prelims.
Uhl finished fifth in the 600 (1:36.58), where
Sameerah Khan's 1:42.57 was good for a new personal best.
Kayley Harnett (5-1.00), Megan Macaluso (4-11.50), and
Abigail Pfaff (4-11.50) all posted new PRs in the high jump.
Jessica Reilly led a large contingent of Lions with a mark of 44-6.0 in the weight throw.
Jean Walter notched a 38-2.75, while
Kerri McCarthy shattered her former personal best by over two-and-a-half feet with a 37-0.25.
Emily Diszler also accomplished a new PR ay 35-3.75.
Edith Gonzalez notched a big PR with a toss of 37-2.25 in the shot put, and Reilly added more than five feet to last week's mark with a 33-4.75. Walter (31-11.50) was just behind Reilly, and Diszler secured a new PR at 30-0.75.
