Every Friday, TCNJ Athletics will highlight one of its Hall of Fame inductees. This week it's John Beake, a Trenton State football player who became a Super-Bowl winning general manager with the Denver Broncos. He's a 1961 graduate and a 1982 inductee into the TCNJ Athletics Hall of Fame.
Â
When John Beake was inducted into the Trenton State Athletics Hall of Fame in 1982, his resume was certainly strong. At the time, Beake served as the Denver Broncos' Director of Player Personnel, continuing a steady rise through the organization. Just two years following his induction into the TSC Hall of Fame, Beake was named general manager of the Broncos.
Â
He spent 15 years in that position, leading the Broncos to five Super Bowl trips and back-to-back titles in 1997 and 1998. The Broncos had just two losing seasons during his tenure, and they had nine seasons with double-digit victories. They won six division titles.
Â
Beake's back-to-back Super Bowls in Denver weren't his first taste of an NFL title. Beake was an assistant coach with the 1969 Kansas City Chiefs, helping the team to an 11-3 regular season record before they defeated the Minnesota Vikings, 23-7, in Super Bowl IV.
Â
Following his time with the Broncos, Beake was appointed NFL Vice President of Player Development and Managing Director for NFL/NFL Europe League Football Operations by then-NFL Commissioner Paul Tagliabue.
