NEW YORK, N.Y. – Roman Rychkov picked up an individual win and contributed to another sensational relay effort for the TCNJ men's track and field team at the Lions Indoor Invitational on Saturday evening at the Armory.
Rychkov finished atop a loaded field in the 400-meter dash, posting a time of 49.99 to cross the finish line more than a half-second clear of the runner-up from Harvard. The event also included sprinters from Division I programs Columbia, Fordham, and Marist.
Andrew Lodge finished fifth in 50.70 seconds to give the Lions a second place-winner.
Rychkov and Lodge joined forces with
Sean Burtnett and
Alex Amoia to end the meet with a bang. The Lions' 4x400-meter unit finished second in a blazing 3:22.93, one-hundredth of a second faster than the 5
th-ranked time in Division III accomplished last month by a TCNJ quartet that included
Brett Schuett in place of Burtnett.
Amoia was sensational in the 800, trimming more than a second off his previous personal best to capture third place in a time of 1:56.03. Burtnett finished 10
th with a 1:58.29.
Stuart Gruters finished fifth in the mile with a time of 4:24.55, his best since clocking a career-best 4:19.82 at the 2019 NJAC indoor championships.
Fabian Mestanza, meanwhile, marked a new personal best with a 4:31.85.
Jack Ennis slashed almost 12 seconds off his personal best in the 3000 meters, coming in with a time of 8:56.21.
Benjamin Fanta was right on Ennis' heels with an 8:58.62, while Pat Mulligan (9:01.67) and
Michael Bond (9:08.45) each secured big PRs.
Tyler Scott was sixth in the 200-meter dash (22.83).
Tom Domozych led a large Lion pride in the 60-meter dash, finishing 10
th in 7.18 seconds.
Justin Gomez (7.22) and
Ray Schmitt (7.30) made their debuts in the event, with
Tyler Scott sandwiched in between at 7.26.
Zachary Mackiewicz shined in the weight throw, posting a 47-1.75 to place fourth and extend his personal best by more than a foot.
George Agyei-Sam led the Lions in the shot put, finishing 10
th with a mark of 41-8.0.
Stephen Daramola notched a personal-best 41-3.0.
The Lions return to action next Saturday at Alvernia.
