Seven Lions hit B-Cut qualifiers in TCNJ Invitational Finale

EWING, N.J. – The TCNJ men's swimming and diving team closed out the 2022 TCNJ Invitational with a stellar final day of competition, finishing first with 1,416 points as Sunday concluded.

The Lions won four total events competed in the finals and diving, highlighted by seven Division III 'B-Cut' qualifying times being swum throughout the day.

Two hit the 'B-Cut' qualifying mark in the morning preliminary session. In the first men's event of the day in the 200 backstroke, Ryan Higgins hit the qualifying mark with a time of 1:49.33. The second qualifying performance came in the final event of the morning when James McChesney hit the 'B-Cut' mark in the 200 butterfly with time of 1:50.11.

In diving, sophomore Ethan Weiss claimed the top spot in the 1 meter 11 dives after earning a score of 528.15 points.

Leading off the finals session with the 1650 free, freshman Gavin Formon and sophomore Lukas Blach both clinched 'B-Cut' qualifiers after placing in the top two. Formon won the event with a time of 16:03.18, and was followed behind by Blach's time of 16:06.52. Rounding out the top three was freshman Brian Bull, who just narrowly missed out on the qualifier himself after clocking a 16:17.97.

Freshman Andrew Kidchob finished second to lead the Lions in the 200 back with a time of 1:54.45, just edging out teammate Jonah Herring's time of 1:54.53.

The Lions swept the 200 breast, claiming the top three spots. Ryan VanDeVeen finished first with a time of 2:01.63, qualifying him for the 'B-Cut' as he dominated the field. Dylan Negron finished second by clocking a 2:06.17 and Shawn Kushner rounded out the sweep with a time of 2:06.99.

In the 200 fly finals, Ryan Higgins finished second with time of 1:54.82. The sophomore was followed by Conrad Hoody, who touched the wall just behind him in third with a time of 1:56.51.

The Lions closed out the weekend in superb fashion in the 400 free relay, with the A team hitting the 'B-Cut' mark with a time of 2:59.99. The quartet included McChesney, Dixon Kahler, Richard Park and Matt Watts. As the leadoff man, McChesney's 100 free split of 44.09 represented an individual 'B-Cut' qualifying performance.

The final standings from this weekend are:
1. TCNJ – 1416 points
2. USMMA – 987.5 points
3. Stevens – 694 points
4. Suny New Paltz – 338.5 points

Following this weekend, the Lions will next compete at the RPI Kumpf Invite in a little over a month on January 14th.
