BOSTON – The TCNJ men's track and field team only competed in one event at Boston University's David Hemery, but that was all the Lions needed to put together one of the best performances in program history.
The quartet of
Michael Rodriguez,
Roman Rychkov,
Alex Amoia, and
Kevin Christensen clocked a remarkable 9:59.50 in the distance medley relay, putting themselves second in all of Division III. The time is only two seconds off the school record established in 2007 and stands as the fourth-fastest distance medley relay time in program history.
Coming into the night, only Wartburg had posted a better DMR time than the Lions' sub-10-minute effort. However, Williams and Southern Connecticut State each broke the Division III record and Geneseo, Lynchburg, and MIT all narrowly edged TCNJ on the fast track at Boston University. As it stands, the Lions own the eighth-fastest clocking in the country (adjusted to 10:07.66 for track size), six of which came from the Valentine Invitational.
NOTE: The men's track and field team also sent a contingent to Monmouth's Winter Invitational on Friday night. Results were not immediately available late Friday night, but a full recap of the weekend's performances will be posted on tcnjathletics.com at the conclusion of the meet on Saturday.
