STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – Andrew Lodge broke a long-standing program record and
Alex Amoia won an individual gold medal to lead the TCNJ men's track and field team to a runner-up finish at the NJAC indoor championship on Monday.
The Lions accumulated 138.50 team points, behind only seven-time reigning champion Rowan.
Lodge's school record came in a silver-medal effort, one of six for the Lions at Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex. He clocked a 48.89 in the 400-meter dash, edging out Chris Kalwinsky's 48.92 from 1995 for the top spot in the TCNJ record book. The time is good for fifth in all of Division III this season.
Amoia provided the lone gold of the day for the Lions, finishing the 800 in 1:55.01 to narrowly outpace teammate
Roman Rychkov (1:55.16) in second.
Sean Burtnett nearly made it a podium sweep, settling for fourth at 1:56.92.
TCNJ took silver in both the distance medley relay and the 4x200-meter relay.
Michael Rodriguez, Jason Adriopoulos,
Fabian Mestanza, and
John Raisley completed the DMR in 10:31.41, while
Tom Domozych,
Ray Schmitt,
Justin Gomez, and
James Blair clocked a 1:29.80 in the 4x200.
Lodge, Rychkov,
Tyler Scott, and
Jason Engler placed third in the 4x400 relay (3:20.19).
Jack Ennis led an impressive effort by the distance squad, logging a big PR to finish runner-up in the 5000 meters (15:16.42).
Chase Miller was fifth (15:26.94), with
Michael Bond (15:28.37) and
Benjamin Fanta (15:31.41) each posting new personal bests to take sixth and eighth, respectively.
Kevin Christensen led three Lion place-winners with a fourth-place run in the mile, clocking a personal-best 4:17.30. Rodriguez (4:17.74) and
Stuart Gruters (4:19.66) also tallied new PRs and finished fifth and seventh, respectively.
James Blair earned bronze with a personal-best 8.59 in the 60-meter hurdles. Domozych landed in fifth with a personal-best 7.04 in the 60-meter dash, with
Tyler Scott taking sixth in 7.09.
Scott also took fourth in the 200-meter dash with a career-best 22.22.
Jahmir Anderson headlined a parade of personal bests from the field squad, matching his PR to take second place in the high jump at 1.90 meters.
George Agyei-Sam (13.93 meters) and
Luke Schrank-Garcia (13.17 meters) each posted personal bests in the shot put, finishing fourth and sixth.
Zachary Mackiewicz placed fifth (14.90 meters) and
Warlys Lizardo was eighth (13.67) in the weight throw, each with a PR.
