3/4/2022 8:40:00 PM

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Nicole Lester placed in the pole vault and two sprinters put themselves in scoring position for the TCNJ women's track and field team on Day 1 of the AARTFC Indoor Championships.

Lester, the NJAC champion in the pole vault, cleared the 3.52-meter threshold on her third and final attempt but was unable to break her own program record on the 3.67-meter attempt. She settled for fifth place, behind three national top-20 vaulters from Ithaca, and moved up a few spots to 35th in Division III with her season-best mark.

Valandra Riggins turned in a spectacular effort in the prelims of the 60-meter dash, finishing fifth with a career-best 7.89-second clocking. The time was a personal best by almost a tenth of a second, and only Samantha Gorman's 7.88 from the 2019-20 indoor campaign stands above it for a TCNJ sprinter over the last decade.

Eliza Bruncaj, named NJAC rookie of the year after her performance at the indoor championship, will compete in Saturday's 60-meter hurdles finals after placing sixth in prelims with a time of 9.24 seconds.

Edith Gonzalez finished 19th in the shot put with a toss of 11.28 meters.

Ashlyn MacLure was clocked at 8.09 seconds in the 60-meter dash.
