Stellar Saturday for Women's T&F at Princeton, West Chester

PRINCETON, N.J. – The TCNJ women's track and field team stacked up a number of terrific performances on Saturday as the Lions competed at both the Larry Ellis Invite at Princeton and West Chester's Bill Butler Invitational. TCNJ was the team champion at West Chester, piling up 147.5 points.

Ashlyn MacLure, Amanda Demko, Maria Grill, and Valandra Riggins ran the sixth-fastest time in program history in the 4x100-meter relay, finishing in 47.90 seconds to edge their previous season best by a little more than a tenth of a second. The quartet ranks 11th in Division III this spring.

A week after breaking the 57-second mark in the 400-meter dash for the first time in her career, Demko lowered her individual standard down to 56.92 seconds, good for tops in the Metro and ninth on the NCAA performance list.

MacLure, meanwhile, broke her previous PR by one hundredth of a second in the 200-meter dash, crossing the line in 25.98 seconds.

Eliza Bruncaj, who ranks fourth in the Metro Region in the 100-meter hurdles, completed the event in 15.15 seconds, about a tenth of a second off her PR.

Grill ran a 12.58 in the 100-meter dash, while Riggins notched a new career-best time at 12.63.

Uhl, Grill, Bruncaj, and Demko were just off their top time in the 4x400-meter relay, completing the race in 3:55.77 to finish ninth overall.

Lea Martin won the 5000 meters in a career-best 19:45.56, a PR by almost 10 seconds. Nicole Arita's 20:16.04 was also a massive PR, more than 17 seconds clear of her previous best.

Kelsey Kobus made a winning debut in the 3000-meter steeplechase, crossing the line first in 12:11.00 to slightly outpace teammate Molly Bossdorf in third (12:16.80).

Emily Hoegler posted a huge PR in the 1500 meters, slashing nearly 15 seconds off her former mark to place fifth in 5:15.30. Valentina Palomo placed eighth in a career-best 5:18.44.

Karla Gomez-Matos secured a new PR with a time of 13.04 in the 100-meter dash, and Jaiya Fields took a half-second off her previous mark with a 13.27.

Salini Iyer placed fourth with a 2:26.29 in the 800 meters, where Erin Hanlon was fifth (2:26.81) and Jazzlyn Diaz was sixth (2:28.22).

Erin Buquicchio narrowly missed a career best with a 26.73 in the 200-meter dash and also turned in the Lions' top time in the 400 (1:01.92). Olivia Class was just off her PR in the 400 at 1:05.54.

Buquicchio, Fields, Gomez-Matos, and Liz Lam were runners-up in the 4x100-meter relay with a time of 50.39.

In the field, Meagan Scherer took top prize in the javelin at 34.12 meters, while Lily Lorio was runner-up with a personal-best 33.12 meters.

Kayley Harnett took first in the high jump with a mark of 1.52 meters, while Abigail Pfaff tied for sixth (1.47m).

Nicole Lester finished fourth in the pole vault at 3.20 meters.

Jessica Reilly was third in the hammer throw (39.28m), while Jolie Sheerin's 37.35-meter heave was good for a personal best.

Kerri McCarthy led the shot-put brigade with a personal-best 11.69 meters, placing fifth to go one spot ahead of Edith Gonzalez' career-best 11.68 meters. Emily Diszler notched a big PR of 10.98 meters to finish seventh.

Jean Walter placed sixth in the discus (31.41m), where Diszler was eighth (29.91m). Walter was also eighth in the hammer (36.67m), while Diszler took 10th (34.09m).

Gomez-Matos also placed seventh in the long jump (5.07m), while Zoe Iovino tied for sixth in the triple jump (10.37m).
