PHILADELPHIA – The TCNJ men's track and field team broke a long-standing program record and qualified a relay for the championship heat on Friday afternoon at the Penn Relays.
Andrew Lodge,
Justin Gomez,
Tyler Scott, and
Tom Domozych blazed past a program record that had stood for more than two decades with a blistering race in the 4x200-meter relay. Schmitt stopped the clock on the anchor leg at 1:27.37, more than a second clear of the former school mark that had reigned uneclipsed since 2001.
The Lions' foursome finished in eighth place overall, one-hundredth of a second ahead of Syracuse and another Division I team in Miami (Ohio).
Domozych, Gomez, Scott, and Lodge notched a time of 42.09 seconds in the 4x100-meter relay, placing fourth in their heat and fifth overall. The fifth-place finish was enough to comfortably qualify for tomorrow's Eastern championship, which will run at 4:20 p.m.
Lodge,
Roman Rychkov, Scott, and
Brett Schuett finished the 4x400-meter relay in 3:21.06, placing 21
st overall and in front of a D1 group from Boston College.
