Sprints, Hurdles Shine for Women's T&F at Stockton

POMONA, N.J. – A top-notch relay and three individual victories made for a terrific day at the Osprey Open and Multi on Saturday for the TCNJ women's track and field team.

Amanda Demko was the headliner in the 400-meter dash, where the Lions occupied three of the top four spots with sizeable career bests. Demko crossed the line in 56.99 seconds, while Alli Uhl took a second off her previous personal best to place runner-up in 57.30 seconds and Maria Grill's 58.03 was a half-second PR. Valandra Riggins (1:01.47) and Erin Hanlon (1:01.58) placed eighth and ninth, respectively.

Demko's time of 56.99 is the best in the NJAC and Metro Region and ranks 8th in Division III. 

Eliza Bruncaj picked up an event victory in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 15.61 seconds, and Victoria Purritano finished third in 16.49. Purritano won the 400 hurdles in a personal-best 1:05.86, with Bruncaj taking third in 1:06.58.

Bruncaj, Demko, Grill, and Uhl clocked the best time in the Metro Region in the 4x400-meter relay, a 3:54.26 that placed them second and shot the Lions quartet up to 6th on the national performance list. 

Ashlyn MacLure (26.32) and Valandra Riggins (26.36) placed third and fourth, respectively, in the 200-meter dash, with Riggins notching a new personal best.

Karla Gomez-Matos (13.64), Jaiya Fields (13.76), Liz Lam (13.88), and Abigail Pfaff (14.10) all ran the 100-meter dash, with Pfaff making her debut in the event.

Sameerah Khan finished eighth in the 800 (2:26.15).

On the distance side, Salini Iyer finished third in the 1500 meters (5:00.93). Riley Stellitano was fifth with a 5:07.38 in her event debut, and Molly Bossdorf also competed in the 1500 for the first time, finishing in 5:21.73.

Cassidy Quinn was one of four Lions to place inside the top-10 in the 5,000 meters, taking fourth in a mark of 19:19.98. Jenna Priore was fifth (19:22.54), Liz Askin sixth (19:37.10), and Nicole Fenske ninth (19:45.79). Tara Donoghue knocked well over half a minute off her former personal best with a time of 20:22.30.

Nicole Lester was runner-up in the pole vault (3.35 meters), where Michelle Meyers finished eighth (2.60 meters).

Gomez-Matos registered an outdoor career-best 5.26-meter leap to capture third place in the long jump, with Zoe Iovino placing seventh on a personal-best 4.84 meters. Purritano finished 10th at 4.67 meters.

Iovino also landed in fifth place in the triple jump (10.71 meters), where Bruncaj (9.98m) made her outdoor debut.

Kayley Harnett tied for third and matched her outdoor PR in the high jump (1.55 meters), where Abigail Pfaff finished sixth and equaled her outdoor best at 1.50 meters.

Edith Gonzalez came in eighth with an outdoor-best toss of 11.42 meters. Kerri McCarthy marked 10.89 meters, while Jessica Reilly (10.48m) and Emily Diszler (10.35m) each posted a new PR.

Reilly (32.89m) and Diszler (32.79m) also competed in the discus throw.
