Women's Swim and Dive Falls to Red Hawks

MONTCLAIR, N.J. – The TCNJ women's swimming and diving team fell to Montclair State, 182-118, on the road Saturday afternoon.

The Lions saw stellar record-breaking performances on the board and four top-place performances in the pool throughout the meet.

Brilliant on the board, star senior Gabi Valladares set two new Panzer pool records in the 1-meter 6 and 11 dives with scores of 297.25 and 502.65, respectively. Her performances continued a stellar senior season as the top diver in the NJAC once again.

In the pool, senior Rachel Hannah won the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:16.01. She also finished third in the 100 back after clocking a 1:03.74.

Fellow senior Shannon Hesse won the 50 free in dramatic fashion, edging out second place by only one hundredth of a second after sprinting to a time of 24.51. Hesse would also claim second in the 100 free sprint with a time of 54.74.

Graduate Student Jamie Bowne won the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:01.87.

Sarah Burton finished the day with three top-three finishes. She first finished second in the 1000 free with a time of 11:18.69. She followed up her performance with a third-place finish in the 100 breaststroke after touching the wall in 1:13.89. Her final top-three placement came in the 500 free, in which she swam the third-quickest time of 5:32.51.

In the 200 free, Cameron Carrazza claimed third place with a time of 2:03.43. The senior would also finish third in the 200 IM, in which she clocked a 2:22.44.

Senior Mackenzie Wall finished third in the 50 free with a time of 56.91. Freshman Katelyn Gaulin finished second in the 200 breaststroke after clocking a 2:37.58.

Following behind Hannah in the 200 back, sophomore Colleen Scanlon rounded out the top-three with a time of 2:18.75 in third.

The Lions finished the day strong by dominating the 400 free relay with a time of 3:45.05, beating out second place by over nine seconds. The relay consisted of Hannah, Bowne, Wall and Hesse.

The Lions will conclude the regular season next Saturday when the Lions host No. 23 Rowan at 1 p.m. for senior day.
