PITMAN, N.J. – A season-high eight TCNJ student-athletes were selected for weekly NJAC awards honor, as announced by the conference office Monday afternoon.
Following a dominant road victory at Salisbury, football saw senior
Trevor Bopp win the Offensive Player of the Week, while junior
Brayden Messinger was named as the top defensive player. Sophomore
Vito Finetti also won the top defensive rookie honor.
No. 11 men's swimming and diving swept the awards after a big home opener win over No. 21 Swarthmore. Junior
Ryan Higgins was tabbed as the top swimmer, fellow junior
Ethan Weiss won the Diver of the Week and freshman
Jonah Stein was named the top rookie.
Women's swimming and diving also won a pair of awards, with sophomore
Beth Evaldi named the top diver and freshman
Lilliana Kuball was named the Rookie of the Week.
FOOTBALL
Bopp finished 22-of-36 for 239 yards and matched his career high with four touchdown passes (without an interception) to lead the Lions to their first win over Salisbury since 2001. Bopp tossed two scoring strikes to tight end
Thomas Burke to go with one apiece to
Ryan Gill and
Malin Jasinski as the Lions converted all four of their red-zone opportunities into touchdowns.
Messinger was dominant as a pass-rusher in Saturday's 36-27 victory at Salisbury, racking up nine tackles and matching his career-high with two sacks. Messinger led a ferocious defensive effort that included six sacks.
Finetti recorded the first interception of his career in Saturday's 36-27 win at Salisbury, and it came at a huge time. The pick and subsequent 11-yard return set the Lions up on the Sea Gulls' 38, and six plays later TCNJ had taken a 21-14 lead after a touchdown and two-point conversion
MEN'S SWIMMING & DIVING
Higgins won two individual events, posting two top NJAC times in the 200 Back (second fastest in the country) and the 200 IM (fifth fastest in the country). He also led-off the 200 Medley Relay helping the Lions start with a 1-2 punch, and finished third in the 200 Fly behind only his own teammates.
Weiss won both diving events and posted top NJAC marks and NCAA Regional Qualifying marks on both boards. He currently ranks fifth in the country on 3-Meter and 13th on 1-Meter.
Stein posted a pair of top-three NJAC times over the weekend, winning the 200 Fly and earning second Place in the 200 IM behind only teammate
Ryan Higgins.
WOMEN'S SWIMMING & DIVING
Evaldi won both diving events and posted top-NJAC marks in the process. The sophomore's 1-meter dive ranks 14th in the nation, while her 3-meter dive slots her 11th.
Kuball showed out in TCNJ's home opener against No. 17 Swarthmore, winning the 100 Breast and 200 Free Relay, while also finishing third in the 200 Breast. The freshman's 100 Breast time ranks fourth in the NJAC, while her 200 Breast is the eighth fastest.
