Women’s Track and Field Competes at Joe Handelman Invite

PRINCETON, N.J. – Competing among a field of largely Division I athletes, the TCNJ women's track and field team showed out with stellar performances at the Joe Handelman Invite on Saturday.

NOTABLE FINISHERS
  • On the track, Lions superstar Eliza Bruncaj officially kicked off her season with a second place finish in the 60m hurdles and finishing with a time of 9.53 seconds. Placing in third was Mackenzie Burke, who clocked in with a 9.85 at the finish line.
  • In the 600 meters, sophomore Kelly O'Grady nearly set a personal-best for the second week in a row after placing third with her time of 1:39.76. Junior Olivia Class finished fifth by clocking 1:46.92 at the finish line.
STANDOUTS IN THE FIELD
  • Junior Jessica Reilly began the meet for the Lions with a sixth-place finish in the weight throw with a top distance of 15.60m (51-2.25) on the day.
  • In the long jump, freshman Kathleen Gsell finished fourth with her top jump of 4.95m (16-3) on the final attempt. Placing right under her in fifth was sophomore Sarah Scepkowski, whose best jump peaked at 4.79m (15-8.75).
  • A pair of Lions broke 11 meters in the shot put, as Edith Gonzalez recorded a top throw of 11.34m (37-2.5) to place seventh and junior Kerri McCarthy tossed a 11.05m (36-3) to place eighth.
  • Competing among a field of three in the triple jump, freshman Emily Turschmann took first with her best leap landing at 10.38m (34-0.75) to beat out teammate Gsell, who recorded a distance of 10.31m (33-10) for second.
  • Senior Kayley Harnett placed second in the high jump after hitting 1.66m (5-5.25) on her first attempt, but was eventually edged out by Princeton's Madeleine Wood, who was the lone jumper to hit 1.69m (5-6.5).
UP NEXT
The Lions return to action in a month by kicking off the new year at home with the Lions Indoor Invitational on January 12.
