T&F Wraps Up Busy Weekend

4/16/2023 7:55:00 PM

The TCNJ track and field team had a very busy weekend, sending athletes to three separate events. Those included the Messiah Multi Invitational (Grantham, Pa.), the Larry Ellis Invitational (Princeton, N.J.) and the Bill Butler Invitational (West Chester University). Regardless of location, the Lions put up some impressive times/marks that are worth noting.

MESSIAH MULTI- Jason Engler and Eliza Bruncaj highlighted the Messiah Multi with their performances in the Decathlon and Heptathlon respectively.

Engler finished with a total score of 6374 in the Decathlon, taking second place in the event. He finished first in five events of the Decathlon as well as second in another two. This score is currently eighth in the nation as well as the third best in program history.

Bruncaj broke the nearly 40-year-old school record in the Heptathlon with a total score of 4533. She took first in four out of the eight events on her way to a first-place finish in the event. Her score is not only a school record, but also a top-5 score in the country.

Kevin Christensen ran the 14th best time in DIII in the 3000-meter steeplechase after crossing the finish line at the 9:17.40 mark. This time is also currently the fastest in the NJAC.

Michael Bond was great in the 5000-meter run, marking the 10th best in program history with a time of 14:54.68.

BILL BUTLER INVITATIONAL- Sameerah Khan had a strong showing in the 800-meter run, taking third-place with a time of 2:24.33.
