T&F in Good Position After Day One of NJAC Championships

MAHWAH, N.J.- The TCNJ track team put themselves in great position for a great finish on Sunday as both teams are currently slotted in second place after the first day of events.
 
Men's:
 
Highlighting the men's team for day one was Michael Bond, who took first in the 10,000-meter run with a great time of 32:23.49.
 
Claiming the other win for the men's side on day one was Kevin Christensen in the 3000-meter steeplechase as he claimed 1st Team All-NJAC honors with a time of 9:37.03.
 
Zachary Mackiewicz earned himself a spot on the All-NJAC honorable mention team with his third-place finish in the hammer throw. His throw of 48.56 meters earned TCNJ 6 team points.
 
Qualifying for finals on Sunday were Jason Engler, Tom Domozych and Ray Schmitt. Engler qualified for both the 110-meter hurdle finals as well as the 400-meter run finals with times of 15.45 and 50.20 seconds respectively. Domozych and Schmitt qualified for the 100-meter dash finals with second and fifth-place finishes. Domozych took second with a time of 10.69 and Schmitt took fifth at 10.81 seconds.
 
Women's:
 
Eliza Bruncaj highlighted the women's team on Saturday as she received First Team All-NJAC honors after winning the long jump. She leapt a personal best mark of 5.37 meters to take 10 points home for the Lions. Along with this, she finished first in both the 100 hurdles and 400 hurdles to qualify for the finals on Sunday with times of 14.27 and 1:02.44 consecutively.
 
Julia Dakwar earned herself first team All-NJAC honors after winning the pole vault event on Saturday with a mark of 3.10 meters, which ties her personal best.
 
Lily Lorio received All-NJAC honorable mention honors with her third-place finish in the javelin. Her throw of 34.48 meters took 6 team points for the Lions.
 
Just like Bruncaj, Victoria Purritano qualified for both the 100 hurdles and 400 hurdles, finishing second in both events.
 
Qualifying for the 200-meter finals was Valandra Riggins, Maria Grill and Ashlyn MacLure with times of 25.05, 25.09 and 25.50 consecutively. Riggins also qualified for the 100-meter dash final with a time of 12.17 seconds.
 
Grill qualified for the 400-meter dash finals along with Erin Buquicchio and Megan Gasnick as they finished third fourth and seventh to qualify for Sunday.

TCNJ track and field wraps up the NJAC Outdoor Championships on Sunday as both teams are in great position to possibly finish first.
